• Dr. Jahmal Mosley

    Director of Academics

    Dr. Jahmal Mosley has a rich educational background and over 20 years of experience in education leadership at all levels. His roles have included special education teacher, building and central office administrator, and director of academics. He is certified as a Special Education Administrator. He has substantial experience designing and assessing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with diverse challenges, such as speech, language, intellectual, hearing, emotional, or physical impairments.

     

    He holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts, renowned for its top-ranked academic programs and innovative research. His doctoral dissertation, "Perceptions of Principal Attributes in an Era of Accountability," was published in the Journal of School Leadership and was selected for presentation at the American Educational Research Association Conference, which annually showcases groundbreaking studies that advance education and administration. Dr. Jahmal is a staunch advocate for educational equity, promoting programming that elevates all students' capacities to reach their full academic and social potential.

     

    Education

    Dr. Jahmal earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1997 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, focusing on African-American History and Psychology. This early academic path helped him understand student motivations and how social and environmental factors influence students' strengths and weaknesses. Throughout his education, he cherished being in the classroom and envisioned his more significant purpose in helping students at every level achieve a better quality of life through education.

     

    In 1998, Dr. Jahmal completed his Master's in Education at Wheelock College in Boston, majoring in Special Needs/Elementary and Middle School Education. Recognizing his potential for significant impact at the administrative level, he pursued further education and, in 2010, earned his Doctorate in Education from UMass-Amherst with a concentration in Education Administration, Policy, and Research.

     

    Dr. Jahmal also studied and analyzed the systemic and academic competencies of other nations' educational systems at Harvard University. His research took him to China, where he examined the country's educational system, benefiting from decades of reform and large-scale government investment. He discovered a direct link between China's education system and the rise in student achievement, as measured through standardized assessments.

    Accomplishments in Special Education

    Dr. Jahmal is a licensed Special Education Director and Administrator passionate about serving students who often require specialized educational material and skilled instruction to overcome learning barriers. He is a long-standing member of the NextGen Project, an academic approach that uses emerging technologies to help students overcome classroom skill deficiencies.

     

    Dr. Jahmal has advised aspiring special education Advisory Board directors during their internships in school districts and federal and state agencies. He has also presented evidence-based knowledge through conference speaking opportunities on how next-generation learning strategies effectively remove barriers to learning and employment.

     

    Dr. Jahmal has consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills, bringing people together to achieve academic and organizational objectives. His notable roles include:

     

    Director of Academics, Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (Feb 2023-present)

    As Director of Academics, Dr. Jahmal oversees curriculum, school priorities, personnel, and district initiatives, such as supervising vocational instructional programs. He has implemented procedures to monitor and evaluate student achievement goals and organized parent-school events to increase parent engagement. Additionally, he prepares progress monitoring and school turnaround reports for the district.

     

    Superintendent for Administration (July 2021-Jan. 2023)

    During his tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Jahmal Mosley rolled out COVID-19 in-person and distance learning plans and strategies. He authored presentations on COVID-19 testing protocols and procedures and performed curriculum reviews to maintain high educational standards. He enhanced the district's communication platforms, improved parent engagement, designed a budget addressing human capital and teaching needs, resolved union grievances, and restored union-administration collaboration.

     

    Superintendent of Schools and Administration, Nashua Public Schools (July 2017-July 2021)

    As Superintendent of Nashua Public Schools, Dr. Jahmal prepared an annual budget of $177 million and implemented a five-year strategic plan encompassing educational objectives and school policies. He supervised over 2,500 employees and maintained public relations to inform the community about district activities.

     

    Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Administration, Sharon Public Schools (July 2014-July 2017)

    In this role, Dr. Jahmal oversaw curricular reviews, evaluated summer curriculum proposals and professional development workshops, and served as the district's chief harassment officer. He trained employees on bullying and harassment policies, was involved in teachers' contract negotiations and policy and budget subcommittees, and supervised state grants and English Language Learner programs. He also evaluated student assessment data.

     

    Principal, Somerset Berkley Regional High School (July 2011-July 2014)

    As Principal, Dr. Jahmal facilitated teacher and staff workshops, created programs to address achievement gaps, and chaired the technology task force. He also developed a strategic action plan for student engagement and access to modern learning tools. He moved the school from Level 2 to Level 1, aligned the curriculum with Common Core Standards, and facilitated professional development workshops on teacher evaluation systems.

     

    Charity

    Dr. Jahmal Mosley actively supports the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and the NAACP, which provide safe spaces for young people to exercise, play, and nutrition. He also contributes to the Salvation Army, helping to reduce the challenges faced by the unhoused, unfed, and unclothed. He believes in providing safe shelter, meals, and mental health services to those in need, especially when affordable housing is scarce.

     

    His extensive experience and dedication to educational leadership and equity have made him a respected figure in the field. He continually works to enhance the educational landscape for all students.
